I’ve been bugging my hubby for a long time about my blog.  Not that I’m trying to be a blog snob, but the neon green color and small pics just wasn’t working for me.  So, this is officially my last post on this blog.  I’ll leave it up just in case anyone wants to see older posts.

This will be my last blog post on this blog…sniff, sniff.  But the exciting news is that I’m getting a new blog! Woohoo! We’ve been working on it and it’s almost finished. I’ll put the new link up when it’s ready (probably tomorrow).  So here’s my last set of pics on this one! Adorable Heather and Dax are getting married next year so I got to do an engagement shoot for them. Dax has style (Heather does too but I rarely get guys who are dressed way cool). So it was way fun for me!

Well, for all you single girls out there, this is one great guy! On top of being way cute, he’s smart and got a good head on his shoulders (oh, and he loves his momma)! This guy has got way too much going for him. It’s really not fair to the other guys out there. You can stop drooling now….

Here’s the trick ladies..

So the guys in our lives need to feel they are in charge….the head of the house. They don’t like nagging wives, girlfriends, etc. always trying to tell them what to do and when to do it. This is not anything new. But when I first got married, I wasn’t about to let some guy be the head over me after living on my own for 6 years.  Jay isn’t bossy and never tried to “Lord it over me” but for some reason, I just felt like I was more qualfied to be in charge. Let me tell you about some of those fights! If you ever want to know what happened to our first vacuum cleaner…

Anyways, I soon realized that if I still wanted my husband to be fond of me, I had better find a better method to… well I guess you could say, “get my way” at times.  So I called upon the wisdom of Maria Portokalos. Ah! I realized that I could be the neck which is physically lower than the head but actually stronger and more powerful with all the control it has over where the head decides to go. SCORE! So for all you girls out there that can’t stand it when you hear sermons in church about how the husband should “rule” over the wife, please remember how God designed the body and though he may be the head, YOU are the neck. You play an argueably bigger role than the head.  Don’t tell your husbands this (let’s just keep letting them “think” they’re making the decisions),  just quietly and patiently steer and turn the head without it even realizing it!  And everyone thinks that we’ve never had a woman president. ;)

I’ve had a lot of seniors lately. I seriously LOVE seniors. They are so full of life and dreams and will do pretty much anything you ask.  This was one of my favorite all time shoots. She was SO much fun to shoot. I had the MOST fun (another quote from all time fav movie “Shag”!

It’s 1:30 in the morning about now so I can’t be held responsible for anything I write…spelling errors, inappropriate comments, it’s all acceptable. This week has been senior week for me. Lots of seniors getting ready for their last year before the final freedom they’ve been waiting 18 years for. Don’t you think it’s funny that we used to think that graduating from high school would be the ultimate freedom and that we could do and have anything we wanted? And now, most of us have jobs, spouses, kids, etc. Not a terrible amount of freedom.  And ironically, we probably had a lot more freedom when we were in high school and didn’t have very many responsibilites. So this is the challenge for me. Not letting all the things I “must” do take away my freedom to enjoy life. It seems the older I get, the harder it is to not get in a boring old routine that robs me of life.  So as I climb this hill of life, I will fight with everything in me to still live like I”m a “senior”.

And here’s my inspiration…senior #1!  She was way laid-back and cool… totally fun!

A little riddle to start your day….

“What happens when you give your 15 mos. old a blue bubblegum snowcone?  It stays blue as it makes its way through and out of the body.” Ummm…..yea, that’s what I meant. You can imagine my surprise when I went to change that diaper! And to top it off…it was so blue that it stained his little booty bright blue! I had to give him a bath and scrub pretty hard to get his white, little, bottom back. Do you think all of his insides are blue too?!?!

Have you ever had so much to do that you just get completely overwhelmed and do none of it?! I totally do this when I have a lot to do. I just kinda drift off to this land far, far away where there are no deadlines or people depending on you and camp out there for a bit.  It’s easier to just ignore it all than to start working through the long list of “to-do’s”.  It’s like I’m pleading “temporary insanity” for just a bit. So anyways, that’s why I’ve been MIA on the blog scene lately…temporary insanity. I have so many pictures that I’d like to blog, that instead of doing a little here and there…I do nothing! So here’s my attempt at entering back into the real world (man, I already miss my fairytale land…).

I got to shoot an adorable little girl this weekend. She was way full of energy and pretty fast on top of that! I’m definitely glad I didn’t go to the gym that morning! She was totally taken with her “princess” umbrella and had a lot of fun twirling about.

It’s that time of year again….back to school! The kids are dreading it and the moms are secretly excited about it. It’s also time to start thinking about senior pictures. I’m looking for 2 senior reps from all the local high schools. My senior reps get a fantastic deal. They get a free session, a 4×6 book of 20 images from their session, and a stack of senior rep cards with their picture on them to pass out to friends. They also get cash incentives for any other seniors they send to me. My birthday is tomorrow! Yipee! I love my birthday. I know I’m a little old to still get excited about this kinda thing (I’m turning 31) but I just can’t help myself. I always try and pretend that I don’t care and it’s no big deal but I just get so excited about it! Birthday’s are just special days ya know? It’s like you get this one free day in the year when everyone has to be nice to you and treat you like you’re special. I mean when else would Jay come home from work with a yummy chocolate mousse cake from my favorite bakery AND flowers?!  I was going to take a picture of it for you (the cake that is) but my self-control is lacking and I dove in before I thought to get the camera. Sorry.

So I bet you’re wondering what I’m getting for my birthday. I think this is probably the best birthday present I’ve ever received (besides a car when turning 16 of course).  Jay gave it to me earlier this week so I could use it on some shoots I had scheduled for the week. Are you ready?!? I got 2 L lenses!!!!! The photographers out there are blown away by this right now but all the rest of you are having the same reaction as my mom did….”oh, that’s nice honey”.  It was a HUGE surprise. I wasn’t expecting even one but 2! Wow! Jay did good. After I opened them and freaked out, he asked if I would rather of had a new pair of diamond earrings. I didn’t even have to think about it. Heck no! This is coming from a girl that definitely enjoys a trip to Tiffanys. That’s how much I love my new lenses. So I have had a great birthday week so far.

Every year for my birthday, I like to spend a day alone. I like to take in the whole year and think about all that’s happened and changed from the last birthday. Life gets so busy and bogged down for me so this is my way of keeping track of my life and what I’m doing with my time. I know most people do this at New Years but for me it’s more meaningful on my birthday. I love to spend the day just reflecting, thinking, writing, and hoping for things to come in the next year.  I didn’t get to do it last year so it was nice to have a day alone. My sweet mother-in-law watched Holden for me. It’s been a really good year for me. I can’t complain about all the incredible things I’ve had the chance to experience this year, but I do have some things I’d like to do more of next year. Like just play. Watching Holden reminds me all the time to just enjoy life and laugh.  You know, those real, serious laughs when you are truly just enjoying life. And to really love. To drink in those moments that are sweet and to look for the good in the people I love instead of all the things they do that I don’t like. And last but not least, to read and pray more. I love to read pretty much anything (except the newspaper….boring) and don’t do enough of it. And praying totally calms me down and just settles my soul.  I could use a little more settling of the soul most days. So these are my birthday resolutions for year 31.

Holden loves playing in his little baby pool. Well, I guess what he really loves is getting in and out of it and throwing any near objects (like mom’s sneakers and drink) in the water.  This wasn’t really a planned swim. We had been swimming that morning and I never dumped out the water. I opened the back door for just a sec and he shot out like a firecracker and jumped in fully clothed! Hence, we went swimming again.
